Thank you Babel-fish for the warm welcome. Sorry for the late reply.

I can feel that you love the place very much, and I just hope that your presence will give impact to the development of Dumaguete in particular and the Phils in general. If anyone of you guys is an instrument to the development of the city, then, go ahead, file your candidacy for mayorship and rule Dumaguete. You know what I mean... Our local leaders in the country. Sorry no offense.

I don't know if malls make the city improve. Others say negative. For most of us thinks that it will help urbanize the city, generate employment, and taxes, but, for some (economist point of view) there is that major factor that contribute to the operation of malls in ones place that is detrimental to its economy. I dont' know why, and I'd been thinking about the real explanation but didn't get the right answers. Maybe, this has something to do with the effect on individual's disposable income and savings.

Talking about Bayawan, I have been there during my teenage years. I just have this uncle before, who had an Hacienda in one of the remote areas in Bayawan. That was 1974, when sugar industry in the Phils was at its peak. My father asked me to quit schooling (right after I graduated in the elementary as first honor student) to work in the farm planting sugar cane for 2.5 pesos a day. That was really low life I had, but I like to imagine those days how I manage myself to survive. I still can remember the place Bayawan. They used to have big fishing in this city. They also had Tulong Sugar Milling Co. in Sta. Catalina. I'm not sure if it is still there. And right behind the city going to the northeast, is the place called Canalum. This used to be a vast riceland. About 30 km off Bayawan past Canalum, were big haciendas in places of Talavera, Banoyo, Nangka, kalumboyan, Kalamtokan, etc.

I would love to hear stories about this place because this can bring my memories back in my childhood. I am also looking forward to go back this place and live for the remaining years of my life with my children.
