I have done a quick google search and there are yacht clubs and brokers about. I would go the "put it on a trailer and take it home route" for a number of reasons, security, weather, and the distances are not great. Modern multihulls or even mono hulls would be good enough for island hopping. I think from memory small multi hulls are made in Vietnem, Nacra's. They are safe, fast and efficient, designed for ease of rigging and you can take it home.

As for the "dug out", well there is nothing more frustrating than an inefficient sailboat, or perhaps a cheap Chinese made bicycle.
