Question Food and snorkeling gear on Apo Island?

Hi everyone. I have a few questions regarding Apo Island since I'm organizing a trip for 10 or so friends to go snorkeling there this May. All of us will be first-timers there and so we want to make the most of our time and have little or no hassles with the food and equipment.

I just wanted to know if there are snorkeling gears there for rent, as well as life vests in case there are kids? If yes, how much is it?

And another thing, what food (for lunch) is available on the island? Can anyone give me at least an estimate of their prices?

Is there a need to reserve a boat or banca to take us to the island? I wouldn't want to arrive there and find out that there's no more boat to take us to Apo Island.

Thank you in advance for the info

Hello , my name is Kevin . I can give you some info . First , There is a dive shop on Apo that stuff can be rented , lifevests I don`t know . Second , there is food on Apo . Liberty`s hotel and cafe has good food , not so expensive 200- 300 PHP for a meal , maybe cheaper if you have big party and make arrangements . She is a cool lady . Thee is an Aussie resort next door to Liberty`s , to the left ... I have heard the food is good . Last, there are bancas available to rent at the Zamboguita town pier , where they have the Wed market ( be aware it` busy and a fun place to check out ) they have 3 or 4 sizes of bancas for hire ... I think the one you would need is 2, 500 PHP for the R/T with gas included . . I would call Liberty`s and ask her to make a package with the dive shop gear and foods and maybe they even have a banca gowing over and you can get a deal ( not sure ) never hurts to try ! It is a very nice place for scuba but maybe also for swimming and nice place to spend the day . Good luck . Kevin

I am a bit confused. I used to always take a group of friends and kids of up to 10 to APO island when I would travel to Dgte. This all changed the last time that I was there. I was then told by a friend that some foreigners drowned when their boat tripped over so it was taken over by the Coast Guard. Now adays to go over you must go through the Coast Guard and they transport you over there. This also meant that the price increased by an ENORMOUS amount per person. I used to be able to bargain with a fisherman to take us over in his boat but of course there were no life jackets on board. Maybe I made a mistake. I will keep Liberty in mind the next time I go. It would be much cheaper and just as safe.
