| As this topic came up in another Thread, I think it is worth to discuss about it. IMHO it is a complete ecconomical nonsense to build an Airport there. I just put down some links, where the discussion goes on other sites Panglao-Bohol International Airport Development Project - SkyscraperCity Proposed Panglao International Airport makes no Sense cheers Rhoody Philippinen Tauchen Last edited by Rhoody : 09-24-2007 at 07:02 AM. |

| Why don't they build a large international airport near the southern end of Cebu to service Dumaguete, Cebu and Bohol, and improve the ferry services between southern Cebu, Dumaguete and Bohol. This makes the best economic sense, right? |

Only my layman's reasons ,it is unlikely for anything as higher level like an international airport be built over the southern part of cebu considering it's topography consisting most of rolling mountainous terrain ,whilst it has already the established airport of Mactan .The southern part of Cebu has only little patches of sea side back packers resorts like moalboal or liloan to mention ,or has no presence of any largely develop ecomic site to meet its needs for an intn'l airport.If otherwise to service Bohol or dumaguete, might just leave it for Mactan to do the job, because at the end of the day people heading to other islands have yet to do the inter-island crossing .For investors ,it will be a loosing investment .

| Don't you think it would make better sense if they build the airport near Dumaguete as this city I guess could generate more international activities with the infrastructure here already conducive for events of international magnitude such as the convention center, the international standard academic institutions as well as the researches done by internationally acclaimed researchers? Tourism could be made as side dish...Besides, there is already a developed expat community in this area. |

| they already have on in Illoilo and cebu surely thats enough Gloria just seems to wnat to build airports what about waste water treatment plants and electricity first. but then waste water treatment plants and electric don't provide so many kickbacks |
| ||||
| and its actually one 1.5 hours away from cebu by fast craft this is just a plain waste of money' and an utter joke considering other prirorities as i stated previously most of the pop have no access to clean water how about addressing this but no another airport any more an d the phils will hold the world record for number of airports in any country for its size it must be up ther alreaady |

| Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. An airport discussion can go on forever and I love it! First off, look at a map. It makes sense that a major international air terminal be located centrally. Cebu - Mactan is a good choice in that respect. That's why the Philippines Air Force has its air transport force headquartered there. Second consideration is the supporting air route structure and that of inter-modal connections. Again, the Cebu example is a good one. Having said that, there are some considerable disadvantages to the current Philippine air transport policies. Try flying from Cebu to Dumaguete. You can do so - but only via Manila. Was this system designed in Canada? I thought that only we could be so foolish. If you wish to debate airports and boondoggles simply Google any combination of Bacolod and airport. I was in that city shortly before the inauguration of its new international airport. Hucksterism, boosterism and a misplaced developmental emphasis gone completely wild! Bottom line: Bohol doesn't need an international airport. Dumaguete doesn't need an international airport. The Philippines structure of air routes needs to better utilize the existing airport infrastructure. That's all
