Talking The Essay Contest

Hi guys,

Outcast and I were in Coco Amigos last night having a nice cold beer when we thought up this little idea for the site.

We will have monthly contests with a total prize sum of P5000/month

This month(well submissions until February 28) we will have an essay contest on the topic : Festivals of hte Philippines.

We will get the rules up later tonight.

But I dont know what would be more compelling:

1 prize of P5000

OR

1st prize : P3000
2nd Prize : P1500
3rd Prize : P500

What do you think?

Wow, monthly essay contest !!!! The Cold beer at Coco Amigos must have done this so, LOLS . Actually, this sounds very interesting feature for this site . P5000 for the winner is a good price in the Philippines. Though by being sympathetic, giving away 1st and 2nd prices will reduce the sum of first price ,but making few others happier. I’m in favour for the second option . If whole Philippines will know this , you might be swimming with thousands of entries, just be ready.

That is basically what we are hoping... Eventually word will get out and we should see a huge upsurge in members here, which ultimately will help us promote Dumaguete City / Negros

I agree with Newt. I think a first, second, and third prize would allow more people to be winners.

Sure why not

We will assign new topics every month, so the same essay can not win 2 consecutive months, but the same person can with a new essay.

Bit light on submissions...I would have thought with all the students in the area you'd be flooded...Make next month's topic 'McDonalds'...submissions will be rocketing in....

Not many people know about it I believe aaaaand midterms is coming up for the students so I think they'd rather pass their requirements for the time being.

The info about the essay was only posted about couple of weeks ago,so can't expect remarkable number of submissions just yet. Entries may only come as little trickle now but might be flowing in more as time gets closer to deadline. Also it might need intensive advertising online and directly to universities and colleges to reach out to great number of people/students who might have the extraordinary whack for winning essays.Let's just hope many will find the info.
