DAILY STAR: Negros Oriental A student of Silliman University in Dumaguete City shot himself in the palm and the bullet exited through his thigh Sunday, in what police investigators theorized to be a case of attempted suicide. Police said the victim, Nikolai Reambonanza, 20, of 228 Villa Mariano, Barangay Taclobo, Dumaguete was at the crossing of Scuba Ventures near Fatima Village in Barangay Bantayan, seated alone on a wooden stool, waiting for his unidentified girlfriend to arrive. The victim, who apparently had a "personal problem", got his .38 caliber revolver and shot himself. Reambonanza, who narrated this to the police, said he tried to shoot his head, but instead hit his left hand. Police said he still walked about 200 meters to the highway where he rode a pedicab to the Silliman Medical Center Foundation Inc. Probers could not find his .38 caliber revolver in the area. In another incident, a male worker, 19, was shot and wounded on his chin about 1:30 a.m. Monday, near the Ceres Bus garage in Bagacay, Dumaguete. Niņo Maputi, of Purok Nebraska, Barangay Bagacay, pointed to Opaw Wung, of Canlas Subdivision, Bagacay as the one who shot him. Police later identified the gunman as Melvin Wong, 20, of Purok Dap-dap, in Bagacay. Investigation disclosed that Maputi and Wong were having a drinking spree when Wong shot Maputi with a firearm of unknown caliber. When the police staged a hot pursuit operation, the suspect surrendered, with the firearm he had used.*RG |
