Hospital Stay

Having been fortunate avoiding hospital stays in RP a friend of mine advised me on what to expect..He said you would need a "watcher" someone to be there with you around the clock to get your prescriptions and possibly go out for food and and even getting you a towel and more that you take for granted...Is this the case in Duma hospitals also??After reading that article about a good retirement place because of medical facilities....etc..So if your a person without a significant other your in a world of you know what if you have to do a stay in the hospital????

It depents if you are going to a privat hospital or not, but there in no one in Dumaguete.
I stayed in a hospital with no towels,cr paper and hot water.
My son was 3 days with me but he decided to go to a privat hospital in Manila and that was perfect for another 14 days hospital.

Everything has a price.

If you stayed in a hospital without towels in Duma, that's quite right to me. I live in USA, and I've been to three hospitals here visiting, I didn't see any cloth towels (if that's what your'e talking about) hanging in bathrooms; paper towels and tissues, yes. Hospitals are not hotels. We have to bring our own personal things. When I took my husband to a hospital here, I had to pack up some of his personal things like small hand and bath towels and including toiletries. So if you knew some hospitals that provide towels and you see it hanging in bathrooms, that's unusual and that's great. Oh yeah, my husband was in semi private room.

I was a tourist from Holland and must go to the hospital for a very urent operation, my apendix was burst.
And when you must be operated right a way with no delay and and you wake up in a room like that .
I can asure you that is a big suprise, my son did come over from Holland in a hurry and I can tell you that I was very happy that he took care of me.
Cos I did not have te power to survive that alone,
and I did not survived that operation with the care of someone else.
That is the difference between Holland and the Philipine hospital.
I had to pay the operation before they start it,

I am sorry Diver for your ordeal. My Mom had her operation and hospital care in a private room at Holy Child Hospital but they never asked finances upfront when she needed the operation asap. Mom stayed for almost 2 weeks and my sisters and brothers and in-laws took turn to be with her and hospital finances were settled when she was given the green light by her attending Physician. The "NO MONEY, NO OPERATION" is just harsh to me.

My auntie living in dumaguete had a serious illness she is now in manila for treatment. What I know hospitals in Philippines especially the private ones will not operate anybody who come there without a downpayment or advance payment or at least something to show them as a security that you can pay the operation.Even the government hospital still difficult to people who are poor , they are still not so welcome if they don’t have money to present.

richie 1 i onlly spent 2 days in holy child hospital last december the staff could not do enough for me they went out of there way to help me no money up front just paid when i was discharged so they are not all bad

Are you saying that a "watcher" was not needed??Who then got your medicine if needed??I take it your a foreigner so the assumption(sadly) would be the hospital knows your good pay..
