Something I always asked myself.....How do Filipino manage to sleep in the fracass? The routine is unvariably the same: 1) Crickets at 18.50 2) Dogs at 18.30 3) Toads at 21.00 4) More dogs throughout the night as in a barking competition 5) Roosters starting at 4.00 Do they drink themselves silly with tuba and cheap Tanduai or San Miguel before collapsing to bed? Good thing they did not adopt the spanish past time of bullfighting else we would have to deal with that as well. As anyone ever tried to introduce them to the Thai past time of betting on Fighting Fish? At least it's quiet and cheap to keep, althought you have very little to eat at the end of it! Or, maybe they like bloody sports with lots of bits flying around....then I could advice Russian Roulette, everyone is a winner....they get the excitement, the gory bits, a population reduction, businness would be booming for the grave-diggers, wives would again be free from drunken and abusive husbands.....Hurrah!

Tell the seller that you will take care for them, free of charge; put them all in a cage; cover the cage during the time you don't want them making noise; invite your neighbour once a month on chicken curry. But in all seriousness ..... I can imagine your frustration if you can't sleep anymore. I once had a sleeping problem here (nothing to do with noise, nor beer). I could not sleep a single minute during more than a month. I was a wreck during the day and my head a merry-go-round in the nights. Doctor pills did n't help at all. What helped was....don't laugh .....drinking a lot of beer before going to bed ! After some weeks I could stop drinking and could sleep normally again. But your roosters won't care of course, or you try to feed them beer Hope you will find a good solution on the site Kinhason2 mentioned.

This reminds me of an old friend who had a similar problem. His filipino neighbour placed a cage with a rooster in it just next to his bedroom's window. You can only guess the troubles that followed! He decided to follow the legal path and went to an attorney. The judge then asked him to provide evidence of the noise pollution so the poor chap had to record on tape the loud noise throughout the night/early morning, keeping a log of the hours the noise took place. How could the judge distinguish and pin point the noise recorded to that particular rooster is beyond me! I do not know how it ended up but I wonder if it is possible to put a stop to it on the basis that animals should not be kept in a residential area, or at least reach a compromise to ensure that the cages are kept covered during the night/early morning. That would not stop the rest of the neighbourwood, dogs, tokoi.... I remember my friend later buying a laser pen to blind the creature. I would have thrown a couple of green mangoes to the bugger to shut it up. I've got the gut feeling that as a foreigner one stands no chance of winning any case in the Philippines, particularly one involving cockfighting, their national past-time. What about getting a bird of prey, parrot or a pet python to scare the shits out of the rooster?
