| I would like to ask why we whites are always assumed to be rich Americans? It is very bad to make assumptions like that. Were I to make that assumption about some businesses that from the outside look really gloomy, I would stay away. However, we all know that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and self assessment is best. I know of some foreign looking businessmen here in D'guete that some think look a bit rough. But then so do some tribesmen in the bush. Do we judge them as being "bad' or poor.? Let's stop this assumed judgement of others. I have been following criticisms here in the forum and notice that sometimes an opinion appears to be given as fact. This is bad. I had a lovely pizza at a seafront business cooked in the traditional Italian way. I really enjoyed it. Of course it wouldn't be to everyone's taste so I would simply say the food was hot and fresh and properly cooked. The venue was clean and the service was good. Most importantly, the beer was COLD and reasonably priced. I have been charged 45 pesos for smb in some prominent places. I won't pay that price so those places lose my custom. |

“White people” are americans, it’s just more on historical reasons ………American colonialism in the Philippines……filipino used from the start all this white people are Americans. But of course to those who are more educated are not thinking like that. Why this white people assumed to be rich ? As simple as this 1 dollar-45 pesos. That’s why you are considered rich in Philippines. Some “White people” pensions can hardly give them a bit of luxury (own country), but when you bring this pension in Philippines you become a peso millioner + a BONUS you can get a very young wife ! |

Although I hate history subject lol.But here I want to trace a bit, how this country Philippines colonized by this white people (American) .Before they established a military government there, schools (american soldiers as teachers) etc… under there control in years …..aside from the written history our forefather passed on the stories of their experiences (with the Americans) from generation to generation until it's stick in the mind of the filipino…. white people are americans. But as I said, the educated filipino people are not thinking like that ... Ok enough of history. |

| Filipinos think that all Westerners are rich because they can drink and eat anytime. And they all seem to run modern cars and have nice homes and a large quantity of the latest consumer goods. Filipinos who are like this are few and far between. But the one’s that can afford servants are not in heavy personal debt and they have extra cash over and above their life-style. So Filipinos assume that Westerners who have these things can always produce those extra dollars at no great pain. They seldom realize that our Western consumer societies run on credit - on the promise of future earnings - "Buy now - pay later." There is a general assumption that all the possessions of average Westerners are owned by the westerner and not by financial institutions. A working Filipino family on average makes maybe 10,000 0r 15,000 peso’s and I am sure you know the size of a Filipino family. So you spend twice that much on just yourself of course you are rich to them. It is culture they have little to survive on and you have so much the poorest of us for the most part is richer than they well ever be. ![]()

| why do the average Filipino think that if your from the west your rich? I think of it like this... To live in a 1st world country, example USA, you have to live like your in a 1st world country, To live in a third world country, example Philippines, you have to be "RICH" to live like your in a 1st world country even if your in a 3rd world country 1st world countries have more, while 3rd world country have less, when people from 3rd world countries tell you, you are rich because you came from the 1st world country, It is mainly because you have so much material things than a 3rd world average citizen has, but in reality a 3rd world average citizen really doesn't need all that material things to live an average life in a 3rd world country. I have meet two kinds of people who rich people might consider poor, One was begging in the streets, the other one I met save my life, (well actually my thirst) we were shooting an independent film far from the City proper.. when we ran out of drinking water and there was this man, local in the area, smile at us, then he climb a 3 story high coconut tree then gladly brought it down, open it and gave it to us.. and boy it was the most delicious coconut drink I had ever had.. Then he wave and left.. come to think of it.. That man was richer than the rest of us in that place, why? HE can climb a coconut tree 3 story high!, while us city people with all our worthless money cant even find ourselves something to drink... so I guess he was saying while he left "poor city guys" hehe..![]() |

Second point Manchester Utd fan living outside Manchester - shocker! Seriously though the thing that I don't get is why bloody basketball is so popular and football is almost ignored. I mean lets be honest the Philippinos are not exactly the worlds tallest race are they. It's not really get a good football club, any football club would be nice. |
