Task Force Kanlaon is on a distinguished road
Default Help us prevent the cutting of 4,213 trees in Mt. Kanlaon!!!

Dear Fellow Negrenses,

Greetings in peace!

Task Force Kanlaon is a group of Manila-based organizations and individuals who have banded together to support the Bacolod City-based Save Mt. Kanlaon Coalition's efforts to stop the cutting of 4,213 trees in the Mt. Kanlaon buffer zone for geothermal exploration by a Lopez-owned corporation.

They also filed a case questioning the constitutionality of the laws that created the buffer zone and legalized geothermal explorations and the cutting of trees within the zone. They filed for a TRO to stop the cutting while the case is being heard.

The case will be heared on Tuesday, but the cutting continues unabated. 907 trees had been reported felled as of last week! The coalition declares August 11, Monday, as Save Mt. Kanlaon Day and will submit signatures gathered for a petition to Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the provincial governor of Neg. Occ.

Although the location of the geothermal project is on the other side of the island, any disturbance and disruption of the ecological balance in Mt. Kanlaon will affect the entire island.

No one can put a value to centuries old of bio-diversity that will be destroyed. One of the rarest flowers in the world is found inside the buffer zone!

We, therefore appeal to you our fellow Negrenses, to spend time in familiarizing yourselves with the issue, and stand by our side as we endeavor to prevent the wanton degradation of our forests for greed and profit.

You may want to log-in to GreenWatch Philippines. Most of your questions can be answered there. Once inside, you may also chat with members of the Save Mt. Kanlaon Coalition to be further informed and clarified about the issues involved.

Divergent as we may be, Mt. Kanlaon is our common heritage. Help us move mountains to save OUR mountain...

Thanks guys!

I hope to invite others to our social network GreenWatch Philippines and encourage a dialogue with members of the Save Mt. Kanlaon Coalition in Bacolod City.

Mt. Kanlaon is our common heritage, may this present concern open doors of interaction between individuals and groups from both provinces.

Don
