Smile Just wanted to say hello

I lived in the philippines for 4 years. I had to learn the hard way how to live there. However I would not want to live any place else. I am looking for a new place to start over. I am working in Taiwan as a English teacher so I can make some money to go back home to the philippines. I am 50 and married to a wonderful Filipina. I would like a place where I could open a carenderia and a bakery. just need to find the right city. I could use the help of my fellow expats for Ideas.

Welcome Teacher.
I'm not knowledgible about carenderia (have to find out even what it is) and don't know anything about baking bread.
The only thing I see here in Dumaguete is that there are plenty of bakeries.
It has always wondered me to see so many bakeries in a country what mainly lives from rice.
I hope you will get the reactions you are looking for.

Smile Thank you for such a quick reply jellyfish

Yeah, I know about the bakery issues, a carenderia is a small Filipino restaurant that most Filipino like to eat at due to it being cheap. I was looking at Citihomes in Dumaguete. Do you know anything about it. Interested what banks are in Dumaguete are there any malls. Just kind of wanting to know the lay of the land in that area.

Yes I know Citihomes.
The developer (Lotiff Property Development Corporation) is my own partner .
I haven't been yet at the spot in Bantayan (northern Dumaguete).
Lotsizes are very small as are of course the floor area.
Compared to lotsizes in our subdivision (ApoVista-BeachPark in Maluay near Zamboanguita) it's only a fraction.
But of course everything has it's price.
Banks (Philippine) enough here in Dumaguete.
Malls are coming soon (read the 'number ONE' topic on this forum regarding Robinsons ) It won't take many years to get another one (is n't it Yabs ? )

Default could you let me know.

Jellyfish
could you let me know the prices of the homes there? my wife is interested in the two story home in citihomes, but if I could get a general idea of the cost of homes where you are. After living there so long I like a small house it is not so hard to care for and less family members can move in on you. ha..ha!
is there a Banco de Oro in dumaguete? I am sorry to be a bother to you. I am trying to work out a plan to come back home. As fast as I can i miss PH very much get home sick I think.

Default Hi Teacher

Welcome back to DC [Dumaguete City] soon! You will get a lot of pointers from DI members for sure. A warm welcome to you and your lovely Filipina. I like the idea of a carenderia. We do have a lot lot of bakeries but it seems that they all sell some daily. It's amazing. OTOH, a carenderia is good because it's more affordable, it can still be as clean, and family food is taken care of as well. My late mother ran one way way back during my high school days. Our food fare was always minimal due to the carenderia. Close to establishments such as schools, hospitals, rapidly developing areas--these might be the areas you'd be looking at.
Happy luck!
