Looking forward to a vacation

Looked at places in PI - AC, Manila, Cebu - they all seemed wall-to-wall frenetic. Found Dumaguete, and it seems like a nice, laid back, place to spend a few weeks.

Learning to dive, riding around on a motorbike, lazing on the beach. Not a lot written about the nightlife, but I think reading the board will give me some better idea about that.

Hello PatMcTap,

welcome to Dumagueteinfo, a great place to learn Diving (with me... hehe) some good roads around the island and great to be lazy.
Nightlife is compared to AC MNL or Cebu not existing, There are some places to hang out with some cold ones and some streetbirds flying by but thats basically it.

But don’t bring any dirty laundry; the people are poor and willing to do anything for a buck…young girls and boys. They are very innocent, just struggling to survive.

Hey, I understand. No one wants a bunch of break-about yahoos bustin' up their place. My idea is a vacation, a chance to learn to scuba dive, some local travel, immersion in another culture, and a chance for fun.

I think what they are trying to say is it that Dumaguete is not a place for people that have the bargirl life style. It is more laid back and peaceful place quiet and a great place to relax. 99% of the people are nice. But some like to talk, I had a friend fell in love and married a Filipina they were the same age and then the Filipino’s wondering why he married and old woman she looked like his maid not a wife. You marry a younger woman then you are a pervert. On this issue there is no way to win. Older Filipino marry young woman no issue seems a little one sided. So come have fun and relax never mind.

What drives me up the wall are people who try to rationalize it and talk about how it isn't wrong (I don't think it is wrong, but they try to argue the point.) I get the feeling people have a guilty conscience when they do that. And then they come up with the silliest arguments. If you want to marry someone half your age, just do it and forget about what other people say.

I was a squad leader during my AIT training in the military. There was an ugly girl in our same company who would sleep with anyone who hung out with her on the weekends. Every Sunday intelligence reports would float in on the latest guy who ended up with her during the weekend. Often it was someone in our barracks and my Sunday fun would be to point these guys out. I had always warned all the new guys as they came in that I would do this if I found out.

Most people got pissed and vigorously denied their weekend adventures. Of course, they couldn't argue with our eyes on the ground. We would continue to give that person crap until our next victim the following week. It was a great game.

However, some guys were proud of what they did. When I brought it up, there were nothing but grins and nods. For these guys, I would slap them on the back, give them a hearty congratulations for getting lucky and then that was the end of it.
