| Well, yesterday I went again to a cockfight. This time in Dauin where they have a nice new building. I have been in my life here to one cockfight in Dumaguete, one in Zamboanguita and now one in Dauin. I go there because one of my workers participates in cockfighting with his cocks he trains himself. He always asks me to go to his cock fighting and of course to put money on his cocks. So I did now 3 times. I always lost money so I have a good reason now to tell him I will stop with gambling on his cocks because then he will surely loose again ! I promised myself now not to go anymore to a cockfight. Not that it is because I have such very strong moral objections (I do have some; in general I don't like any fighting, bloody or not, by humans or animals), but because I don't see the fun, even not when I should have won all three times. But every country has so it's own cultural 'habits' which won't change quickly. It will surely be a slow process of changing. Too much interest of people. We westerners are generally not 'accepting' these bloody games but we westerners had even more cruel games in our history. e.g. the Romans with their gladiators. And what about that stupid (= MY opinion !) 'modern' version of gladiator fighting like American wrestling or cage fighting? Disgusting for me. It will take a long time I fear before cockfighting is banned here. |

| nice one jelly...well people has diffrent views on the sport..either on the contrary or not...keep on coming guys...thanks But if you would try to look at things on the view of the breeders who look at the sport at a different way its not cruelty on animals but rather giving thier feathered warriors a chance to live...because these birds by nature are teritorial so we cannot let them live in the wild. best ASIL

| It might be my Calvinistic heritage but I am against betting since it is proven to be highly addictive and ruins families. Like alcohol and drug abuse it is a threat to society. Can't say I like bloodsports either but I am not going to wind myself up over a dead chicken, bio industry is likely more cruel to animals and there are a lot of people in dire circumstances and that takes priority for me. |

| absolutely right arie.. im also against gambling...but i fight birds and i dont bet on them... i just like to breed, test them in the pit and feel the rush everytime i see my birds fight... its feels like im the one fighting for my life...you my not feel what i feel but its really amazing seeing my birds hammer its enemy to death and disgusting if i see them loose..hehehe for me sabong is a sport and not a kind of gambling...coz i dont bet i just let my friends bet on my bird...its a combination of art and science. 1.) its an art because you breed birds they way you want them to fight.. every bloodline has its individual fighting style, combining different bloodlines produces different fighting style. 2.) it a science because your breeding follows the law of genetics. you should consider the combination of bloodlines for a breeder to produce a real fighting machine. its also a science of animal nutrition and animal health...both aspects has a great impact on producing ace warriors.

| As a foreigner, here is my take on it, plus other forms of human and non human combat. 1. Cockfighting is Filipino culture and heritage. As a foreigner, I have no right to try and change it. I abhore it personally. If you do not like it, don't attend the matches. 2. Humans can choose if they fight or not, animals cannot. 3. In the US, pro football player Michael Vick went to prison for dog fighting. He deserved what he got and more. 4. I do mixed martial arts fighting (MMA). Not as much now as earlier because of my age. I administer pain, and in turn receive it. Again, this is my choice. I am not forced to compete. 5. I think any sport that causes needless pain, and death to animals is cruel and barbarick. Again, these contests are based on culture, and not mine to approve or disapprove. 2 bb |

| on that point 2bb of sports with needless pain is barbaric, how bout boxing? boxing matches now a days are not that competitive but rather an income generating mafia.. example of which is the de la hoya vs pacquiao match..a non title match...so whats the use of fighting two miss match boxers? (but still manny won)..the fight is done maybe for money....or i could also be wrong, but thats what i see...because filipino cockers went to america, the likes of chavit singson and rex wacky salud...did they go to vegas to support manny or to bet on him... best ASIL
