Default slow down

Here is a old story my wife told me.
One day a man who had been to gather his coconuts loaded his horse heavily with the fruit. On the way home he met a boy whom he asked how long it would take to reach the house.
"If you go slowly," said the boy, looking at the load on the horse, "you will arrive very soon; but if you go fast, it will take you all day."

The man could not believe this strange speech, so he hurried his horse. But the coconuts fell off and he had to stop to pick them up. Then he hurried his horse all the more to make up for lost time, but the coconuts fell off again. Many time he did this, and it was night when he reached home.

So I guess slow down and relax is the moral.

This is my first post on this forum. I've been "lurking" for a while but, I simply must respond to this post!
Teacher,
When I saw this thread I thought to myself "This is a really bad idea". IMHO, just by starting a thread like this you're guilty of 1,2,8,9 and 10!!!!! You are also inviting other members to respond and be guilty of the rest of the items on the list with the exception of number 5, of course.

Default Really

After living in the Philippines for five years and being married to a filipina.I was only trying to help my fellow expats though the pit falls there are so many differences between Filipinos and Westerners. The important thing though is for a foreigner to be able to adjust and understand the Filipino culture one must have at least an open mind and heart or be interested in learning. having empathy, curiosity, interest and acceptance of the cultural differences.

You must at all times show inquisitiveness, docility, willingness to learn about the Filipino people and most importantly, you must be humble and have respect for the Filipinos and their values. You can't impose western values in the Philippines.

And when this was posted there were interesting problems going on with some outrageous forum members expressing what they thought about Filipinos. It was really just sour grapes…

Teacher,
I was all little afraid the thread would turn nasty but, my fears were unfounded... I understand your points but, not everyone can subscribe to your optimistic approach, especially if they think they've been "screwed over" by a Filipina or her family. In most cases, from what I've read on the forum, it is a misunderstanding of the cultural and familial ties that bind the Phillipine people and a bit more understanding on the part of Foreigners would be beneficial. That said, getting "the shaft" is a universal concept and knows no geographical boundaries...Docile works only if you aren't down to your last Peso.

I noticed that you are on Taiwan....I was stationed there with the US Navy at Shu Linkou Air Force Base, just up the mountain from Taipei in 1969 and 1970. Taiwan was great and the people were wonderful!!

Hi, I find a few things lacking in your post. More specifically that would be spelling and grammar. This post is riddled with errors. I would generally not feel the need to spitefully point this out but when I am reading such a post from an "English teacher" I question it's validity. My point is that if you teach English you should also speak it. And with this in mind I'll take my advice on how a foreigner should behave from Filipinos. Not from a self appointed ambassador.
