Does anyone know of any work being done with the lower trophic levels of sea life in around Negros. I'm particularily interested in autotrophs... the microscopic organisms that occupy the first trophic level of the foodchain.

Yes...I'm serious !! In fact I'd say a person studying any form of Marine Biology without studying the microscopic first trophic layer(s) isn't serious. Everything above it is based on this foundation. It would be like hoping to understand the jungle by only observing elephants. What is happening at this level will make or break the system. That's where most pollutants do their destructive damage. They pull the biological floor out from underneath everything above it. AND, might I add, put some algae or diatoms under a microscope and they are no less spectacular than the big guys.

Thanks. I'm in Canada but I winter in DGTE. I have been working in Limnology, the study of fresh water species, but have an interest in Marine life as well. Do you know of any Keys (Taxonomic catalogues) for Marine algae in the area ? That's all I really need. I've been to Silliman before and someone or, more likely, a collective group, has misplaced a good many of the books there so I couldn't find anything.

Silliman is not up to standards as you will know. Breading Tridacna gigas is an "old trick" that is done in Europe for some 15 years now indoor even on synthetic salts.. and better even faster Growth . I am in Invivo ImagizeTechnology and breeding fish both display and eadible . Hatch raised from Fingerling to platesize in a new way, 5 times quicker then is ususal WITHOUT anti Biotics or Hormones ! I would like to meet you in person when you are here . A couple of hours is all I can spare ,but we can share some quality time I do believe. You can use my emailaddress given in the profile for that matter. The only other ones I know are at Los Banos University. but likely not very much into sharing information with "ordinary "people.. If you wish I can give your their email and phone number ,however only thru private mail that is..There is ( or rather was ) an File orepator in Bicol that was washed away . Otherwise the best sollution is Dr .Thomas Heeger in Cebu He owns an export company for Exotic marinefish and Invertebrates . I do know he is a very well skilled person ,indeed. his website is Marinefauna Cebu .com.. He is a bit arrogant I have to tell ,and does not appriciate your opinion... |

Sure... email me in January and we can get together. I had also promised some samples to a Belgium scientist. Oddly enough, the Philippines hasn't been mapped out yet for a lot of genus. 3 years ago, I was trying to contribute some knowledge to the Agriculture Secretary's fish farming experiments in Valencia but we couldn't find a decent microscope up there. They were having to change their water pretty frequently and I had some ideas on biofiltration using chlamydemonas and daphnia but it never panned out cause we didn't have a microscope. I tend to shy away from Silliman because I had some odd experiences with them which I shouldn't publicize....funny people...... some of them.

Well. for one time only then.. a picture of me in a Hawaiian shirt and not a Italian handmade suit... On the right is Dr. Thomas Heeger . Ee respect each other, but have other criteria and specialism . Beside that my experience is gathered over the seven seas and not within a particulaiir area or single species. I do believe I have putted it here in a very nice and polite way........
