Default No Fish In Phils ?

hi friends
Is there any fish to catch in the Philipines coastline ?
I doubt.. after searching around and asking in the net. - I get usually same answers : No fish here.. or very little... they are cactched or the sea are destroyed..
is it really so bad ?
I allways imagined it must be easyer to go on angling in Philipines with the 7000 islands there most be something..better than Thailand,,,
can anyone help or advise ?
It cant be true there is no fish to catch . of do the Philipine goverment dont care about nature protection ?
is nothing done to protect ?
What about near Dumaguete ? or near Mindoro up north ?
or any other islands.. it cant be true the fish are locaed just a few places and other places the sea is empty ?
any advises welcomed .
do I need a fishing licens in Phils or waht ??
regards from
Denmark

I have a Japanese friend that lives 1 kilometer from me in Dauin. We both live in beachfront homes. He has a small 2 or 3 person pump boat, and he fishes about 2 or 3 times a week. He fishes by trolling a lure about 50 to 100 meters or so from the shoreline. He does catch fish, but not too often, maybe 2 or 3 in a month. He has caught Barracuda, Mamsa (not sure what the English name for this fish is), and a few other types.

This is a good question, what about when diving is spearfishing allowed? Are their many limits on what you can keep or fish for?

Fish protection has become a concern and there are now many fish sanctories however the problem is that policing such protection is a big headache as some fishermen will not stop illegal fishing methods. Its going to be a hard slog to allow fish stocks to multiply as part of the staple filipino diet is fish and small fish are not given the chance to grow to adult hood as they are on daily menu's.

The municipality of Dauin in located about 20 kilometers south of Dumaguete City. Its claim to fame are the numerous beach and dive resorts in the area. I think there are at least five of them, or more. The newest one is Atmosphere Resort, just opened a few weeks ago.
