Hi My wife 2 kids and myself are planning to come to Dumaguete for a few days in the next 2 weeks to check out Silliman U. I have been told that we can bring a vehicle by ferry. We would appreciate any comments or suggestions you can make concerning ferry trip, lodging, costs of these things. I tried the search function, but did not seem to have much success Thanks Nate

| HI Nate, bringing your car is easy with Montenegro shipping lines. If you want to stay somewhere very nice, I just discovered a fantastic Apartelle in Dumaguete (florentina Homes), close to Siliman, not the cheapest, but absolutely value for money and great and safe for Kids. More in the heart of the City would be Hotel Palwa and many others cheers Rhoody

Hi Nate, Also there is Maayo Matiao Shipping Lines from Bato (after Santander) to Tampi. See Maayo Shipping to Cebu Island. They syncronize departure times with Ceres bus Dgte-Cebu and I have found them reliable, however sometimes full. There are (limited) services for snacks, food etc. on each pier if you have to wait. Ticket around 1,500 pesos for all. On Negros side you will have less than 30 minutes to SU. Coco Grande is next to SU and is one of the city's best hotels. 2,000 pesos and up for a family. And since you are bringing a car why not try out one of the many resorts along the South Highway, after Bacong. Definitely more fun for the kids, and only 15-30 minutes each way. All star combinations, from 1,500 to 10,000 if I have been quoted right. You should find some links in DI web pages.

You can find information on ferry's on this website: Maayo Shipping - Philippines

Maayo Shipping is the Ro-ro which lands in Tampi, San Jose. If you are travelling via bus, it is much faster to take the Ceres Liner to "Liloan - Santander". The last fast ferry leaves at 6:30 or 7 pm and begins early in the morning with roughly 1 hour intervals. If you miss that you can either take a boat or the Ceres Liner bus that that leaves Cebu City South Terminal at 6:30pm and travels via the Ro-ro at San Jose. It takes an hour or more longer than the Santander-Sibulan fast ferry way. I have no experience with Hotel Camila.

There are two piers there with ferry boats that bring you here in 30 minutes. There's a pier in Bato and I forgot the name of the other one but they are just near each other, you can easily get a tricycle or trisikad and tell the driver "adto ka sa pantalan paingon sa Dumaguete" and they will bring you there. Maayo Shipping is good only for cargoes and for those travelling with their vehicles. And you have to wait hours to get to another ride. In the two piers, ferry boats arrive every 15 minutes from 6:00 a.m to 6 pm I think.
