Hello everyone, and many thanks to all for the info on where to buy fishing gear.
I look forward to meeting as many fishing mates as possible, to learn from all of you about old and new techniques and, hopefully, finally catch my first esda.
I'll be visiting Dumaguete probably mid january 2009. I'll be more precise as the time gets nearer.
Till then, a big ciao from the UK.

I used to fish at Wuthering heights resort. Yes they allow fishing but you have to bring your own gears and bait. I used cheap Taiwan made gears and shrimps as bait. I only caught one 6 inch fish, locally called timbungan, thats it lolz. Though I've been fighing for several years, I still consider my self an amateur for this hobby. I also fished at Ducomi pier before, daytime and night. It not allowed there anymore. Some fishers could catch squids at night time. They use artificial-baits wooden shrimps with hooks. I'm so envious of their catch. Me and my group,Zero. I think there is no more fish to fish by the beach. Deep sea fishing is the right way. Balustre's method is good but I might not fit on the pump boat he he. Anyway if Balustre comes to Dumaguete again to fish, please make some announcements. I will certainly join you.

Okay, we can work out the logistics when I visit Duma in December and in July next year. The good thing about Negros is that during the monsoon months, one can go to the sheltered side to avoid the big waves.

Default Fishing gear

Can anyone with a bit of knowledge and plenty of patience tell me which fishing gear i should look for when fishing in the Phils?
Right now I'm home in the UK but I'll be getting back to Dumaguete by the end of january, and i would like to buy some of the equipment before leaving.....As i'm a BEGINNER, i would ask you to be kind to me and start with which line, hooks, weights, swivels, spools, wire traces....to go for.
I have a Shakespeare beach caster rod....any good?
What's yours feeling about teleschopic rods?
Thanks to all !!
