One of the many things that the Filipinos have inherited from their past colonial “Masters” is the fiesta celebration. Fiesta, a Spanish word for “party”, “celebration”, or “feast”. Religiously, the celebration of fiestas is founded in the honor of a certain “saint”, or socially, it is a commemoration of a special event in history.
Dumaguete, a home sociable people who has the reputation of being gentle, and glamorously one of the numerous cities that celebrates fiesta in an extra-ordinarily way. Aside from the big fiesta that the whole city would celebrate in the month of November, the component barangays also have their dates for a feast.
Barangay Bajumpandan which has a population of nearly 4,800 residents celebrates its fiesta every 19th of April for its patron saint Sr. San Jose. The Barangay is also known for residential and commercial real estate business.
Barangay Cantil-e has the same date of feast with Bajumpandan, its celebration is intended to honor the Sagrada Familia.With a population of nearly 2, 700, Cantil-e is has the landmark of Habitat housing.
Next in the list is Barangay Junob, with a population of 4,700, it celebrates its fiesta for Sta. Cruz in the 3rd and 22nd of May. Silliman Heights subdivision is located the barangay’s landmark.
The largest barangay in the city, Banilad, follows on May 4. With a land area of 362.7 hectares, it is a home of 7,687 residents. Its fiesta is celebrated to honor Sr. San Jose. The Barangay is located going far south of the city passing by the high way to Bacong, Sta. Monica Beach resort is one of the landmarks to spot this barangay.
Poblacion 2 feasts every 13th of May for its patron Our Lady of Fatima. With a small population of 1,600 residents, the barangay is located the public market area.
Batinguel follows on the 19th of May, its feast, like the other barangays is offered to honor Sr. San Jose.The easiest way to spot this place is its elementary school named after itself.
Barangay Talay celebrates its fiesta on the 22nd of May, located just before the town of Valencia, Talay is the home of the international school Montessori.
Tabuc-tubig is last in the list for the month, no specific date is given for this barangay, but surely it is always in the last week of the May.
