Silliman University hosts a three day scientific meeting with international participants. The topic is Climate Change. The annual meeting brings together the network composed of 50 Universities and Colleges throughout the Philippine archipelago. Some 130 delegates are expected to join the meeting

Dr. Ben Malayang, the president of Silliman University stated that this years annual meeting is the first with international character. Environmental Specialists from five countries around the globe are expected to help and give their input on climate exchange.

The new created Negros Oriental Advisory Council on Climate Change (NOACC) works with different government units to develops simple steps to encourage everybody in the fight against global warming.

The “everybody’s effort” goes from planting trees to organic farming. The province task is to educate the farmers to organic farming to get rid of the chemical fertilizers and pesticides, which also contributes to global warming.

Jose Baladao, the Vice Governor of Negros Oriental, lauded Silliman University for their Effort in taking the initiative to educate the province-leaders on the problem of climate change and show steps how to mitigate its effects.

Local farmers don’t go for organic fertilizers because synthetics give instant dramatic results even if these exhaust soil nutrients in the long run. When we were farming I bought organics from Greenbase (Mr. Amor, fronting the airport that time) and mixed these with synthetic. The organics fatten the soil gradually.

Rissa, your observation and experience using the Greenbase, vermicast from excreta of the lowly earthworms, are true!

The use of inorganic/ commercial by farmers means convenience on their parts… they didn’t consider the ill effects probably because they are unaware…

Calling experts from Silliman University College of Agriculture, particularly Dean Santiago Utzurrum to organize a venue where farmers could partake information and skills on organic farming… Probably other agricultural schools such as those from NORSU, FU and NONAS can also help out.

Filipinos, do not be hoodwinked by the man-made climate change alarmists!

There is no internationally agreed scientific position on ‘climate change.’

One leading researcher said in the last 10 days that he believed that the earth was actually cooling.

I hope that Filipinos want to improve their standard of living just like (say) the Indians and Chinese do, even though one of the latter societies is a democracy and the other is a communist one.

Remember - carbon is the sixth essential element of life and provided that we are using God’s gifts to us wisely, we should not be scared of economic growth in the way that these left-wing radical ‘climate changers’ want us to be.

I agree with you Amazed that there’s no Climate Change! It was the making of Al Gore as his political gimmick but was picked up by greedy scientists… and made it appeared that indeed there’s Climate Change…

Certainly, there’s Global Warming…. and this is affecting somehow our weather conditions… like those areas having cold weather and having ice year-round are experiencing warm weather because the ice is melting…. the water will have to occupy areas that are below sea levels… many parts of the Philippines are below sea levels and therefore be submerged as a result.

History told us that Chinese traders reached the Philippines through foot bridges [sea/ ocean surfaces were covered by ice]… where are these foot bridges now? they are all gone… because of continuous warming of the earth due to the gases that act as cover… sunlight enters the earth, reaches the land, reflected back to the atmosphere but can’t get out due to the cover… creating a greenhouse condition… once built up, the heat melts the ice and creating warmth condition… affecting the weather….

Have we studied our weather conditions for 100 years or more and noticed changes?
