It is a great honor for Silliman University to host the youth summit on January 10, 2007 with an expected 300 delegates to represent the youth leaders from different schools and universities coming from different regions in the Philippines. The National Millennium Development Goals Summit for Young Leader is a yearly event that is participated in by various youth leaders in the country.
The youth summit was originally scheduled on October 23-26, 2007 but was rescheduled to a closer date on January 10, 2008 instead. Spearheaded by the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines with Silliman University to host the youth summit, there are many activities to look forward to on this meaningful national summit for the youths.
With Silliman University to host the youth summit, the youth delegates are up for an awesome privilege to visit the oldest American University in Asia. Located in the heart of Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental, the youth delegates are in for more surprises and enjoyment including a peaceful stroll along the posh ground of the University.
With Silliman University to host the youth summit, it is the University’s honor to hold the event geared towards youth transformation and to promote a positive attitude of young leaders to become more ardent in spirit in promoting changes to the community and become role models of the youth.
The event is centered on exposing the young delegates to the different activities concerning the Millennium Development Goals. The summit is spearheaded by the youth arm of the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines with the theme “B.I.L.I.B. Young Leaders: Stand Up, Move and Lead.”
The United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines uses its principle B.I.L.I.B. that stands for “Believe, Innovate, Lead, Inspire and Build” for this year’s youth summit. The four-day summit involves full packed activities with the objectives of defining the purpose of the goals by the United Nation Millennium Development, to identify issues where the youth can partake, the drive of the youth against poverty, appreciate the nation’s improvements, to share ideas and spread the feeling of hope for the nation. The event’s activities are followed by social activities and cultural nights.
With Silliman University to host youth summit, the event will commence at its venue at the Luce auditorium with prestigious speakers who are officials of the United Nations and other government officials among others.
The youth delegates are off to participate in series of enrichment activities and leadership workshops and immersion to youth oriented projects including action planning. Registration fee is P2,500 per participants.
The 2008 National Millennium Development Goals Summit for Young Leader is a one of the most meaningful national event which gives the honor to the Silliman University to host the youth summit this year.
