The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will start implementing before the end of the month an electronic filing and payment system for foreigners desiring to extend or prolong their stay in the country.

To carry out the project, BI Commissioner Ronaldo Geron signed a memorandum of agreement with Global Payments Asia, a subsidiary of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), the country’s biggest online service providers.

“The online payment system will provide a convenient way to our clients to conduct their businesses in the bureau,” Geron said.

The BI chief said foreigners who wish to extend their stay in the country will no longer queue at the BI main office just to have their visas extended.

He said “All they have to do is to log on to the immigration website – http://www.immigration.gov.ph – to fill up the form for visa extension, pay the amount through their credit card and wait for the printable receipts.”

The printable receipts will also indicate the date when the client will go to the bureau’s main office to have their passport stamped.

The BI chief added that the e-payment scheme is fast and secure.
